Hart Marler Spalding and District Pool League Rules


These are the rules of the Spalding and District Pool League which supplement and in some instances replace the main BACTA rules.

  1. All public houses and clubs participating must display the league rules during matches.
  2. Each match to consist of 6 singles and 3 doubles
  3. Two points will be awarded for a win.
  4. League matches will be played on a Thursday or Sunday night.
  5. Draw to be made 8:30 pm and continuous play in any order if captains agree play to commence at 8:45 pm on Thursday. For Sundays the times are 7:45 pm draw for 8:00 pm start.
  6. A referee is to be provided from each team on an alternative basis and captains are to ensure players are conversant with the rules and competent.
  7. Coaching from anybody is not allowed at any time during the game. Doubles pair may confer before addressing the table.
  8. Break shots if a player breaking fails to pot a ball or make at least two object balls hit a cushion their opponent can accept the balls as they are or ask offending player to re-break. This amends BACTA rule 4c.
  9. Even following a foul shot a player must nominate the pocket into which the black ball is to be potted. This amends rule 6b.
  10. Foul shots the player can place white ball into D and play two shots.
  11. Deliberate fouls the referee is to give one verbal warning and the opposing player will be offered taking the balls as they stand with two shots or having a re-rack the player has the choice of breaking or passing the break to the other player.
  12. If a player receives a second warning they automatically forfeit the game.
  13. BACTA rule 6a does not apply.
  14. BACTA rule 5r and 8a do not apply.
  15. Rule 7c does not come under deliberate foul amendment.
  16. The captain of the wining team is responsible for ensuring that the result sheet is sent to Lincolnshire Free Press within 14 days of match. Non-receipt of the sheet will result in loss of points.
  17. Game sheets are available from Lincolnshire Free Press office.
  18. All disputes to be put in writing to committee within 48 hours of the fixture.
  19. At least 1 representative from each team must attend the AGM.
  20. Any team that is not available to commence play at 8:45 pm on Thursdays or 8:00 pm on Sundays will forfeit 1 game for each 15 minutes thereafter. On Thursdays if no one has turned up to play by 9:30 pm the other team can claim a 6-0 walk over.
  21. Home teams are under no obligation to provide food after each match.
  22. No person can sign for and play pool on Thursday nights for teams in Holbeach, Peterborough and Bourne leagues.
  23. Any team not turning up to play a league game will automatically lose that game 6-0 plus lose 2 points from their league total.
  24. Any player participating in cup competitions must have played two league games before second round of competition in that season. Ladies excluded.
  25. All competitions to be 2 pounds to enter prize money plus trophies for finalists.
  26. Referee to give verbal warning if player or players taking too long play shot.
  27. During the course of every shot a ball has to be potted or if not then any ball has to make contact with a cushion. (i.e. any ball on the table, whether it be the cue ball, their own ball, the opponents ball or the black ball.)
  28. Push shots not allowed.
  29. £5 fine if team fail to turn up to play game.
  30. Combination shot on Black allowed on free table two shots.

Amendments to BACTA rules

  1. Even following a foul shot, a player must nominate the pocket into which the black ball is to be potted. This amends BACTA rule 6b.
  2. When potting a ball from the break the player may choose the other group of balls, by nominating that they wish to change group and potting one, if the player fails to pot one of these balls his opponent will have a free table. Amends BACTA rule 4d.
  3. Please note that these rules allowing the combination shots i.e. potting your opponent's ball or balls are applicable only at the start of the game the break, or following a re-rack situation. Amends BACTA rule 4t 4j.
